The Dancer of the Swedish Royal Court Madeleine Onne becomes acting theater manager at Sweden’s oldest Rococo theater
Ulriksdals Slottsteater – Confidencen is pleased to engage Madeleine Onne as acting theater manager/CEO during a period when the theater’s regular theater manager/CEO is absent.
The Dancer of the Swedish Royal Court Madeleine Onne has, after her career as a Principal dancer with the Royal Swedish Ballet worked as a director for the past 20 years. In addition to direct the Royal Swedish Ballet, Madeleine has been the Artistic Director of the Hong Kong Ballet, the Houston Ballet’s Academy and the Finnish National Ballet.
“Being able to come back and work at Ulriksdal Palace Theater again feels fantastic! I have participated in performances from the very beginning when Kjerstin Dellert had just decided to revive this jewel of rococo theatre. As an artist, I have been part of the development from 1979 when we danced in the only space that existed at the time – i.e. in a corner of the auditorium- to the well-established theater that Confidencen is today,”says Madeleine Onne.
The foundation’s board made a decision to engage Madeleine Onne on May 16, and already on May 17 she assumed her position. Peter Edholm, the theatre’s chairman of the board, is very pleased to have been able to engage such a competent person for the important role of acting theater director and CEO.
“We are extremely lucky when we have now managed to capture Madeleine, just when she has moved back to Sweden after several years abroad and was then between engagements.” says Peter Edholm.
Madeleine Onne will carry out the 2023 performance year as planned with, among other things, the Opera Gala in honor of Jussi Björling, the popular recurring Opera and Music Festival as well as this year’s edition of the festival O/ Modernt which this year is dedicated to Johannes Brahms.
Given Madeleine Onne’s background as a court dancer and long-time director at several different ballet institutions, one may wonder if there will now be more dancing on Confidence’s stage. To that, Madeleine replies, “Confidence’s strength, for me, is that the theater makes room for a wonderful variety of different performing arts. Of course, dance is very close to my heart, therefore I look forward to present performances also including dance.”
