Meet the Lombardini Quartett. One afternoon. Two concerts.
13 September, 15:00 Wiener Melange – Haydn, Mozart and Noid
13 September, 17:00 Nordlichter – Nordic 18th century and Juta Pranulyte
Based in Vienna, the Lombardini Quartett focuses on the early history of the string quartet genre. Performing on historical instruments, the ensemble revives rarely heard chamber works from the early Classical era by connecting them with contemporary music.
In Wiener Melange, the ensemble turns to music from its home city, combining 18th-century repertoire with a contemporary work. String quartets by key representatives of the Viennese Classical tradition, Joseph Haydn and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, form the historical foundation of the program and illuminate the early development of the string quartet as a genre. Their music – full of wit, refinement, and invention – still shapes the quartet tradition today. Set alongside a new composition by the Viennese composer and sound artist Noid, these works are heard from a new angle, inviting an exchange between tradition and the contemporary.
Nordlichter features string quartets by 18th-century Scandinavian composers such as Anders Wesström and Johan Wikmanson, offering a Nordic perspective on early Classicism. Alongside elegance and clarity, this repertoire reveals a distinctive Northern sound world. A contemporary work by Juta Pranulytė continues this musical journey into the present. Bringing together music from the 18th and 21st centuries, the program opens a wide horizon and highlights resonances between past and present.
