Confidencen opens its stage to a guest performance that unites East and West, featuring the company Musica Viva together with the Swedish ensemble Rebaroque. Musica Viva is an Asian opera company with ambitions to conquer baroque music in its part of the world. Here they present budding young singers from the company. The production offers a reinterpretation of the opera’s Vienna version, making full use of Confidencen’s Rococo setting with period scenery, stage machinery, and trapdoors.
– The project is not only an artistic venture but also a cultural exchange of historic proportions. With support from the Hong Kong Arts Development Council, we have been able to welcome 20 artists and the production team from Hong Kong. All this to give the Swedish audience an exciting and unique experience, says Madeleine Onne, CEO and Artistic Director of Confidencen.
– To experience Gluck’s 1762 masterpiece in Confidencen’s preserved 18th-century setting is something entirely different from a modern theatre. Here, the music and drama gain an immediacy that goes straight to the audience, says Leung Siu Kwan Cindy, soprano and director of the production.
