The Crown Princess Becomes Patron of Sweden’s Oldest Theatre
Confidencen – Ulriksdal Palace Theatre, Sweden’s oldest surviving Rococo theatre still in active use, is honoured to announce that H.R.H. The Crown Princess has accepted the role of the theatre’s official patron from 2025 onwards.
The Crown Princess’s commitment to Swedish culture and history makes her patronage a particularly meaningful distinction for Confidencen. This appointment further strengthens the connection between Sweden’s royal cultural heritage and the living performing arts that continue to thrive within the theatre’s historic walls.
The Story of Confidencen
It was snowing that Sunday, 17 November 1976.
My husband, Nils-Åke Häggbom, and I were walking our dogs in Ulriksdal Park when we met Princess Christina and her husband doing the same. Thinking we looked cold, she invited us to her home at Villa Beylon for tea.
After a while, the Princess asked whether I would like to see the theatre located in the neighbouring building — the old yellow house I had passed countless times without knowing that inside lay Sweden’s oldest Rococo theatre, immersed in an almost 200-year-long sleep.
Armed with flashlights, we made our way through the snowstorm and darkness to Confidencen.

“Ulriksdal Palace Theatre Confidencen is not only an important part of Sweden’s theatrical history; it also holds special personal significance for me.
For many years, I lived at Villa Beylon in Ulriksdal Palace Park, next to the building that once housed Queen Lovisa Ulrika’s palace theatre of 1753, but which had been left to decay for centuries.
When I showed the largely ruined theatre auditorium to Kjerstin Dellert, the theatre found the dedicated champion it so desperately needed, and the long-held dream of rebuilding it could finally become a reality.
It has been a great joy to follow the determined efforts to restore these magnificent spaces and once again fill them with song, dance, and music.
Today, Confidencen forms a distinguished part of our living cultural heritage. With the revival of the palace theatre comes a responsibility to preserve and develop both the building and its activities. As many people as possible should have the opportunity to experience the magic of Sweden’s oldest Rococo theatre — today’s audiences as well as future generations.”

Friends Association Confidencen Rediviva
As a member of the Friends Association, you will receive the association’s statutes, a membership card, and an elegant membership pin featuring the royal crown.
Each year, members receive the Season Programme in advance, allowing them to book tickets for the season’s performances before general ticket sales begin.
Every spring, we hold our Annual General Meeting, to which all members are invited through a formal notice. Following the meeting, members are treated to entertainment, and the evening concludes with light refreshments.
Members also receive the beautifully produced annual publication issued by the Friends Association as a complimentary gift.
