The Confidencen is Sweden’s oldest rococo theatre, commissioned by Queen Lovisa Ulrika and King Adolf Fredrik in 1753, to compete in architectural and technical achievements with the finest court theatres in Europe. Composers, musicians and performers from Sweden and Europe were active in this theatre in the late 1700’s.

After almost 200 years of abandonment and decay, the Confidencen was rescued and renovated to its original splendour through the persistent work of opera singer Kjerstin Dellert. With generous support from sponsors and donors and with the help of the many of today’s greatest musicians who have performed on the stage since its rediscovery, the Confidencen now stands both as a unique cultural heritage site and one of Sweden’s leading theatre- and opera houses.

The modern day restoration of the theatre gives our audience the chance to experience the 18th century splendour up close and the way it actually looked in its heyday. The royal halls and foyers can be used for dinner parties, exhibitions and events. As a theatre we can present a broad and extensive repertoire where theatre, contemporary dance and circus, classical concerts and pop music meet unique historical opera productions where the rococo theatre machinery comes to life in the magical glow of candlelight.

Apart from being a leading venue for theater, concerts and opera, we are also investing heavily in children’s activities and school performances for new generations to experience our historic environment and be inspired by performing arts at the highest level.
